Comfort Ero, the artistic director of African Stages Association of BC, “directed” that I play the part of a king in the story “Kokodiko the dance monster” a beast who was terrifying a village. Only the ingenuity of two brothers, shunned as twins, was able to vanquish Kokodiko. A lesson about the value of inclusion and the contributions of every member of the community.

Great to thank Finance Minister Carole James for the budget she presented: one that puts people first with historic investments in child care and housing. Both are key ingredients for economic success for everyone here in BC.

The Muslim Food Bank held a fundraising event in Surrey. Not only does the organization help community members with food, volunteers with professional training and backgrounds provide counselling support and job seeking advice for newcomers. A great grass roots community effort!

I chatted with President Madu Acharya of the Hindu Buddhist Foundation prior to the beginning of the performance yesterday at the Surrey Arts Centre.

I met with representatives of the Surrey Community Child Care Task Force: (left to right) Sharlene Wedel , Options Community Services; Daljit Gill-Badesha, City of Surrey; Bruce Ralston MLA, and Rhea Hubbard, Alexandra Neighbourhood House. They explained to me their recent Surrey Child Care Report. The recent BC budget with its emphasis on a big expansion of childcare services means that we will be able to act on many of their excellent recommendations for children and families in Surrey.

I’m about to drop the puck to open the game today between the Surrey Minor Hockey Association Peewee A1 team and the visiting China elite team as Harbs Bains the president looks on.

I was lucky enough to meet the Sedins when they received honourary degrees from Kwantlen University. As a hockey parent I was always glad my son and his teammates had them to look up to as role models. As an elected representative, I know and appreciate the work they do quietly to support kids and families around the province, including right here in Surrey. http://sedinfamilyfoundation.org/clubhouse-36-3/ #ThankYouSedins

I attended the grade seven leaving ceremony at James Ardiel Elementary in my riding of Surrey-Whalley today. It's special to my family: our two sons Daniel and Martin attended the school from kindergarten to grade seven. It's one of many excellent public schools in BC and it's always inspiring to hear the stories and aspirations of the grade sevens as they prepare for the next step in their lives.

I attended the grade 7 and 8 graduation ceremony of Iqra Islamic School in North Surrey this afternoon. The school community is warm and welcoming and its graduates are well prepared for our collective future. Congratulations and thanks to principal Dr Faisal Ali as he leaves after seven years of service to take another big assignment.
