VICTORIA – New Democrat Leader John Horgan and multiculturalism spokesperson Bruce Ralston issued the following statement to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“Today we pay tribute to Jewish and other targeted communities across Canada and around the world who were all victims of a terrible genocide. We remember with them, the millions of innocent men, women and children murdered during some of the darkest periods of human history.

“On this International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we also stand and honor the survivors and those who perished during the Shoah.

“As conflicts around the world continue and the evils of hatred, genocide,  bigotry and oppression still exist, we need to commit to ending them through remembrance, education and promotion of human rights principles.

“As we remember those victims, Jewish and non-Jewish, who have gone, and those who still suffer, we hope their sacrifice and loss eases with the passage of time and will teach us and future generations the importance of tolerance, understanding and the need for a better, brighter, peaceful world.”
