Bruce Ralston, the New Democrat spokesperson for immigration and multiculturalism, released the following statement in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

“On behalf of John Horgan, Leader of the British Columbia New Democrat caucus, I would like to acknowledge the importance of  this special day.

“On March 21, Canadians from all walks of life commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It is a day when we can all pause and reflect on why we must continue to work together to eliminate racial discrimination in our province, our country, and our world, because racism in any form cannot be condoned.

“Canadians continue to confront racism in our own history, and recognize the injustices suffered by indigenous people as well as the South Asian and Chinese communities.

“We have all learned from these tragic episodes, and we believe only a strong political agenda can help to end racism, promote diversity, and advance equality and social justice.

“The B.C. New Democrat caucus stands with First Nations, and people of all cultures to enrich our province in all fields of endeavour. On this International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we can rejoice and reaffirm in our commitment to working towards a peaceful and harmonious world.”
