Surrey Pride Festival 2018

On June 30th Holland Park hosted the Surrey Pride Festival 2018. Organized by Surrey Pride Society, this year’s edition marked the 19th year of Surrey Pride Celebrations with a variety of attractions and partners hosting booths.

The cloudy day with sparse rain showers did not prevent the local community from showing up and appreciating the event and to cheer its organizers with love and inclusiveness. Surrey-Whalley MLA Bruce Ralston remembered during his opening speech how the LGBTQ+2 community has conquered space and respect since the beginning of the celebrations 2 decades ago and how Canada has become, day by day, a symbol of tolerance and equality among divergent ideas and lifestyles thanks to initiatives such as the event being held by Surrey Pride Society.

The event counted with several presentations from local artists and First Nations groups throughout the day, as well as food trucks that provided delicious options of food for the visitors. MLA Gary Begg from Surrey-Guildford Constituency also joined the festivities with MLA Bruce Ralston and spent most of the day talking to local constituents about actions the current legislature has been taking to guarantee a fairer and more inclusive BC.
